THE GRANTA AND CAM DECORATIVE AND FINE ARTS SOCIETIES’ CAMBRIDGE SIXTH FORM YOUNG ARTS EXHIBITION
During July an exhibition of A level work from Cambridge schools took place at the Central Library in Cambridge. The exhibition was sponsored by the Granta and CAM branches and prizes were presented by James Horton, president of the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA).
Pat Owens, the Young Arts Representative of Granta, who has been organising this annual exhibition for a number of years, said that the standard was very high. The purpose of the exhibition, which is one of many taking place all over the country, is to encourage the next generation of artists. Some of the artworks will be selected to be shown at the RBA Mall Galleries in London next March, alongside RBA professionals. The young artists chosen will have the title of RBA Scholars.
The schools taking part were Netherhall, The Perse School, Hills Road Sixth Form College, Long Road Sixth Form College, St Mary's, The Leys, and Impington Village College. Next year it is hoped that more sixth forms beginning in Cambridgeshire will be able to take part in what is an impressive display of talent.
